Welcome and thanks for visiting www.heelraiser.com. The HEELRAISER is a customized '74 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse by Miller Meteor, created as a tribute to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her athletic programs. The vehicle was purchased in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in February 2004 and began its evolution there. The vehicle now resides in Hillsborough, North Carolina, USA, where the enhancement process continues. This traveling theme park makes frequent trips to nearby "Blue Heaven" (aka Chapel Hill), as well as quite a few journeys to UNC's opposition's venues and appears for various other special occasions. The HEELRAISER also participates in holiday parades and other events of significance. Its mission is to create fun, generate smiles and elicit reactions, preferably positive ones, but nonetheless, SOME kind of response!!! I hope you enjoy perusing this site as much as I've been thrilled with the development of this 21-foot long, four plus tons of solid steel........a rolling monstrosity!!! Please email me any questions or comments you may have about the HEELRAISER or its little companion, HEELRAISER JR., a 2004 Vespa Granturismo (200cc) scooter. I will appreciate knowing any ideas and input you may have for ways to make them, and this site, even better! Raisin' HEEL, John L. Snipes - UNC '82

The HEELRAISER was honored to participate in the events for Catey's and Seth's wedding. First, the HEELRAISER arrived at Graylyn to take the groom and groomsmen from there to the Old Salem Visitors' Center, where vows were exchanged. Upon conclusion, the newly wedded couple road in the rear compartment from the wedding site to Graylyn for their reception. See the following website for two pictures of the HEELRAISER with the guys and then with the bride: http://1shotphotography.blogspot.com/2009/02/catey-seth-tied-knot.html

The HEELRAISER and HEELRAISER JR. were invited to be on display at the first annual "Touch A Truck" fundraiser for B.S. Troop 39 and the North Carolina Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill. It was a warm afternoon and kids of all ages were climbing inside the rear compartment, sitting in the driver's seat, pushing the buttons to activate the train horn, air horn, sirens, animal noises, etc. Many had their picture taken with the HEELRAISER and sitting atop HEELRAISER JR. Being involved with this special occasion was a real treat!

Sam Long's Henderson Homecoming!
Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 4:00 PM
Sam's mother Sharon arranged a surprise ride in the HEELRAISER from Chapel Hill to Henderson. Eleven of his closest friends, boys and girls, had come from Henderson and they piled into the back of the H-R at University Mall and rode to the Long's home in "Blue Heaven." Once there, Sam joined the festivities and the road trip commenced.
At Sam's grandmother's house in Henderson, more friends and family were present to greet everyone and the HEELRAISER. Various groups took turns touring the town in the hearse. Around 8pm, the H-R aimed for Hillsborough and a well-deserved rest before Saturday's adventures!

Anna Sterling's & Sarah Haney's commitment ceremony in Durham, NC
Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 5:00 PM
Cousin Anna Sterling and Sarah Haney, Carolina's women's rowing coach, both enthusiastic Tar Heel fans, had the HEELRAISER present for their festivities at Greystone in Durham, NC. The H-R was parked near the side of the beautiful mansion, adjacent to the outdoor seating and beverage tent for the reception. At the conclusion of the fun and frolic, the happy couple stood through the middle roof of the HEELRAISER and exited the property, after a short flame show for the gathered crowd of family and friends.
Anna and Sarah remained standing for the entire ride to the Doubletree Hotel in Durham. A week later they flew to L.A. and embarked on a cruise to Mexico. They will return to reality in the very near future!

The Citadel @ Carolina
Saturday, September 05, 2009 at 6:00 PM
The Citadel Bulldogs were the opening act for the Tar Heels and were reduced to a whimper in a 40-6 stomping. It was a beautiful evening in Chapel Hill. The Citadel's uniforms closely resembled Carolina's, with the light blue, white and navy colors. That was essentially the only thing the teams had in common, as both the Heels' offense and defense played well.

MADD Road Rally and Car Show
Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 9:00 AM
Cousin Craig Lloyd asked that I bring the HEELRAISER to the N.C. State Fairgrounds for MADD's Road Rally and Car Show. It was a very nice event for an excellent cause. Little did I realize that the Wolfpack had a home game Saturday evening and the faithful were tailgating early in the cow pastures. When exiting, I followed other vehicles and we had to cruise the gauntlet of rabid wolves to escape. Needless to say, there were plenty of obscenities directed toward my hearse and me and like the ECU fans, people kept using their hands to flash their IQ score!

ECU @ Carolina (ESPN2)

Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 12:00 PM
The East Carolina Pirates sail into Kenan this Saturday to pollute our lovely harbor. Prepare for some beautiful but dizzy young girls and their rude, crude vocabulary and sign language that reflects their IQ. I want nothing more than to avenge Carolina's last-second loss to ECU two years ago in Greenville. I've never experienced such inhospitable behavior as I did in "Petey-land," other than in Raleigh at "Moo U"! Let's hope CLASS kicks @SS!

The Cavaliers ride into Kenan Stadium and let's hope, like in Charlottesville recently, they "fall from their horse"! Carolina needs to avenge a terrible loss in Scott Stadium last fall. The Heels have a painful history at UVA and the 'Hoos have had difficulty in Chapel Hill.
A special birthday cruise in the HEELRAISER is happening for a Carolina alumnus and his wife on this Saturday, which should make for a fun day, regardless whether the there is joy in "Blue Heaven"!

Georgia Southern @ Carolina

The Eagles of GSU fly from Statesboro (probably Savannah or ATL) to Chapel Hill (most likely RDU). Don't really know much about this opponent, so we'll see what transpires. Any team is capable and can win on a given weekend. Aren't we painfully aware that this DOES occur?

Tara's and Chip's Halloween Ride(s)
Saturday, October 31, 2009
Tara Taylor contacted me and asked if I could surprise her husband Chip with a ride from their Halloween party in Carrboro to The Franklin Hotel, just a short distance down the road. Now, who wouldn't want to cruise in his hearse on All Hallow's Eve??? So, it happened that I chauffeured the entire group of revelers, in several loads, to the nearby accommodations. Tara and Chip were the final two, costumed as the Bride of Frankenstein and Frankie-baby himself. They stood through the rear roof and howled at the throng of people departing the annual bash on Franklin St. It was a .....SCREAM!!!

DOOK @ Carolina
Saturday, November 07, 2009
For the first time in many, many years, the Tar Heels and Dookies won't finish play in the season finale. It's been a tradition for a long period but change is a part of life, n'est pas? Anyway, this year, the two rivals meet several games prior to the end of their respective campaigns.
Dook is improving with the tutelage of "Coach Cut'" and this could be quite a tough encounter, as many have been in recent memory.

The Hurricanes storm their way from Miami to Chapel Hill and they want to get revenge for a loss last year that still hurts. The 'Canes are playing well, at present, but maybe they won't be so strong in November.
